Average height and weight Sam does not stand out from the crowd. Known for almost always wearing a hat he has become slightly more disheveled and ungainly in appearance the more he has traveled. Sam lacks both muscle and fat, turning him into a fairly useless fighter. He does however have good stamina. He needs his glasses for long distance, but wears them at all times.


Sam is quite a shy person and tends to get nervous very easily. Having spent a year traveling before he departs for University he has learned a lot about himself as well as other people, becoming far more accepting of other people. Quietly studious Sam is known amongst his friends for his intelligence and perceptiveness mostly but also has a reputation as a loner, often distancing himself from his friends. He finds it hard to keep in contact with many people, instead making a few strong friendships.

Sam deplores violence, although this may be down to a lack of willing to fight rather than a hatred of the act. Having traveled America for a month he has decided that everyone there suffers from some sort of insanity and he'd quite like to get home as soon as possible. Unfortunately that is now impossible. He is prone to complaining a lot and tends to find it difficult to understand the attitude of other westerners whilst showing a apparent love with the less well developed parts of the world.

Born in middle England Sam showed no apparent special skills. At school he showed himself to be of high intelligence but not outstanding, the biggest compliment most teachers could give him was that "he just got on with his work." As a young man he became more involved with socialist groups, becoming a active but quiet member of the Socialist Workers Party. During this time he began to write a few articles for the group, but did so under a pseudonym to avoid attention. He did well in exams and began to look at Universities only for his mother to be killed in a car accident. Deciding that he needed time before he went to University Sam left his father and twin sister, to whom he was particularly close, to work in aid projects around the globe. Having traveled as a backpacker through most of Europe, worked in desperate poverty in parts of Africa and India and toured the green coasts of New Zealand Sam left for one last destination: The United States of America. He wished to not only see a good friend of his but also to see if the country was so unusual and foreign as he had suspected.

It was in the US that he finally decided he was ready to return home, his traveling letting him expel his grief in what he felt was a productive and healthy manner. Unfortunately, as he would soon find out, he about to try and leave the country at exactly the wrong time.

Why's everyone beating him up on his choice of portrayer? I think he looks like an average kid. Nothing wrong with that. More realistic if you ask me.

I took him from the UK TV series Skins, which is based around characters 16-18 years old. In a moment of rare TV genius the producers decided to hire actors in the right age range, instead of people in their mid 20s pretending to be younger (I'm looking at you The Hills, The OC, Glee et all).

Besides, he's not meant to be beefy. Trust me on that. Kid is going to crap himself when you hand him a gun.
